Bourne is a small, historic market town situated in the heart of South Lincolnshire on the western edge of the Lincolnshire Fens.

The centre of Bourne is bustling with facilities such as bars, restaurants, shops and businesses, but there is also an abundance of woodland, waterways and recreational spaces close at hand, providing peace and tranquillity.

The town was home to legendary Formula 1/Grand Prix manufacturer BRM, which was established by racing pioneer Raymond Mays (1999-1980).

There’s a relaxed local atmosphere in Bourne, with a market on a Thursday and Saturday. There is a range of local traders in the area. Bourne has excellent green areas including Bourne Woods, Abbey Lawns & The Well Head. There’s also the 50 yard near-Olympic size heated outdoor pool, which is one of the largest of the few surviving outdoor pools in the country.

The local schools are very highly regarded and people travel from afar for them. Bourne has three primary and two secondary schools, including the renowned Bourne Grammar school, recognised for its excellent standard of education and commitment to teaching.

Transport Links

Bourne is situated only 16 miles north of the City of Peterborough which has a fast, direct train line to London’s Kings Cross in as little as 50 minutes, as well as regular services to other major towns and cities. There are buses into Peterborough every 30 minutes. The A15 runs through Bourne, connecting the town with Lincoln in the north and Peterborough in the south. The fast north-south A1 route is just 10 miles away.

Property prices in Bourne are very attractive when compared to the nearby locations of Stamford and Peterborough. Easy access through to Peterborough, with its London transport links has seen good levels of interest in the area with properties starting as little as £60,000 for a one bedroom property and executive family houses available from £250,000 upwards. There is a range from new build properties through to older Grade II listed houses in the area and a mix of flats, houses and bungalows.

Letting and renting property in Bourne

The rental market is very busy at the moment in both Bourne and the surrounding villages, with demand for all types of property. With good levels of rent compared to relatively low purchase price, it makes an ideal investment opportunity for any landlord. You can get a two bedroom flat for as little as £400 pm, two bedroom homes are roughly £550 pm, three bedroom homes starting at £600pm and four bedroom homes starting at £700pm. In the villages, you can find a selection of larger farm houses starting at £1000pm.
